What would make you think twice about using it? José: Hello Larissa! As a behavioral trainer at organizations I believe that we can learn a lot from horses, like trust, respect, communication, intensity, authentic, perception of domain and so on. I had some beautiful experiences with horses and, in a different environment from offices, I think leaders could develop their leadership skills as well as their creativity and innovative thoughts. Study – Collaborative Networks Produce Better Ideas (Raytheon field study)

Blog post: Hutch Carpenter

University of Chicago professor Ronald Burt conducted research on the supply chain management group at Raytheon. He analyzed the connections of employees with others inside the company, and assigned a score indicating whether they were well-connected or relatively insular. He then had the employees provide their best idea for improving operations. The ideas were then rated by two top managers.

Findings? Ideas from employees who had wider connections inside the organization consistently outperformed those of more insular employees. Access to more diverse opinions, knowledge and experience was a key driver in this result.

Innovation 2.0?

Hi Hutch! Thank you for this thoughts.
Lack of communication within organizations or structural holes, in fact, disables agility to change conditions and innovation.
The action of brokers on that chain management brought qualitative value to the ideas produced. I think the results would be better if the research was conducted today with others resources (Web 2.0).
With web 2.0 all ideas produced in an organization may be expressed without cuts or criticism and observed for all the people.
It is possible now to minimize bad effects of informal contacts and have a higher performance with social networks, turning the island “linked in”:) to the continent (well-connected).
It is also necessary to provide the brokers or others (elements of an observatory) with skills that avoid “killer ideas” and realize fair evaluations.
As professor Burt said: “The easiest way to feel creative is to find people who are more ignorant than yourself.”, but that is not the best way to participate in the development of the organizations and to be Innovative.

Que futuro?

“Why Denmark – And Other Countries – Will Lose Their Innovation Capabilities – Stefan Lindegaard

Hi Stefan!

Thanks for the chance of rethinking Portugal and other countries!

My own country, Portugal, has a big sand and sun instead a big whole (janine :)).
We have a “Technological Plan-Innovating Portugal” and a lot of needs and preoccupations.

I become worried when I think that, here, we don’t talk about Innovation (neither we think innovatively) as we talk about beach.
That plan we have does not promote an Innovation Culture as Cristiano Ronaldo does with “Football Culture”:).

What I see are some conferences and news about “News opportunities”
and the master plan of qualifications. To me, qualifications are not necessarily competencies.
Conferences are very useful but we need to dissiminate all the results and repports. That way, may be, we can create motivation to change.

Portugal has no flat hierarchies, but I think Portuguese people has an open mind.
I believe in Open Innovation as well I believe that each European country has is own “Eulogy of the difference”.
